CCMR Accomplishments January and February 2013

COIN Update

We received the score on our COIN application on March 1. The application was very favorably reviewed by the study section and received an excellent score of 124 (100 is a perfect score - scores below 150 are generally considered to be excellent). Reviewer comments demonstrated their high opinion of our research foci, talented researchers, strong institutional support, and important ties to policy and operational partners. While the final funding decision will not be made until April, we are optimistic that this favorable review puts us in a strong position for funding. Congratulations, everyone!!

In the News

Marcia Valenstein's Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) program was highlighted in the Health Systems Headline for receiving nearly $1 million over three years from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.

Awards

Amy Kilbourne was recently awarded the position of Research Career Scientist in HSRD.

Ken Langa has been selected as the 2013 MICHR Distinguished Clinical and Translational Research Mentor.

Honors

Helen Kales' article “Risk of Mortality Among Individual Antipsychotics in Patients With Dementia” was honored by Journal Watch Psychiatry as one of the Top Ten Stories of 2012. The Journal Watch editorial board choice is based on a review of the clinical relevance of stories from areas across the field of psychiatry. The paper presents findings from Dr. Kales’ R01 “Antipsychotics and Mortality in Older Patients.

Eve Kerr was invited to present at UM Grand Rounds on January 18th with the talk titled “Moving Towards Patient-Centered Performance Management: Why We Need to Act Now”.

Helen Kales, Sameer Saini and Sanjay Saint were included in the Best Doctors in America 2012-2013 list! Every two years, Boston-based group Best Doctors, Inc. compiles the list of best doctors based on an in-depth survey of current physician listees.
